What would it look like to have Halloween on the beach? Thats the question I asked myself when doing this illustration. At first I had a kraken going trick or treating, because I like the contrast of a kid and evil kraken, then added a mermaid but the composition of the image wasn't working out. It wasn't conveying the story I wanted it too.. So then I started to land on this composition of The Pumpkin Mermaid. I didn't see anything else quite like it and started to go with it. I brought back in the kraken though with the tentacles to break up the harsh strait lines of the boarder. Keep in mind I also have to recreate this image in chalk so the elements that are popping out are to add more interest to the painting when I chalk it on the ground.
