New Icon / Avatar

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 1, 2009, 10:16 AM
news
:iconcharfade: <--- New Icon woot! Made it this morning. Every so often I go through these changes, and I've been wanting to branch out with my art some. What do you guys think of it?

Kryptid did an awesome job on my last icon But I felt I wanted my art and style to represent me rather than my characters. Hence the change to the Wagwo Studios logo. Sort of a tricky move on my part because it seems like everyone knows me from my characters. Eh... figured I would try it.

And thank you to everyone with the warm comments lately. (in ref to this journal:[link]) Been better times of course, and I'm still on break this week so I've been finishing up some need to do projects. Just taking it easy. I just really appreciate that you guys are here from me. Difficult to talk about so I hope you understand why I didn't reply to comments. I'm just sorta coping on my own terms.

:holly: Its the holidays!! woot! I hope everyone is enjoying them! I strung some lights around the house this weekend, and we put up our fiber optic Christmas tree. The kitten is crazy about it... I thought it was only really trees they liked...(I've never owned a cat before). First Christmas in our new home, and its pretty festive I'd say! ^_^ I'm excited to have family and friends over.

Also wanted to make note that I've been accepted as a contributor to the :iconmasterphotoshop: #MasterPhotoshop Group. Been wanting to make some new brush packs and tutorials lately. So hopefully soon you should see new artist resources in my gallery. So keep a watchful eye out for them!

To be thankful for life....

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 25, 2009, 8:53 AM
news

I'm just going to stand on a little soap box for a moment and get some things out. It's been a crappy few days. Saturday I found out one of my students was in a car accident and passed away. He was definitely a person everyone enjoyed being around. In one of our classes he explained he was learning Chinese with his brother and I asked him to start each class off with a new phrase and he was more then willing too. Just something as an icebreaker before getting to work, but it was always things like that make a huge difference in class room moral. Often he went out of his way to ask questions to compare the subject matter we were learning to something he used or noticed in his life. That got the other students thinking and sharing their own experiences. The class would laugh and learn things together and for a moment it felt like we weren't working. Instructors aren't supposed to play favorites, but it was hard not too with him. As much as students are influenced by their instructors, we are also influenced by our students. He was someone I enjoyed bouncing ideas around with and I enjoyed watching him learn and often struggle with the same concepts I had when I was in his shoes. When I ever gave him any sort of advice he took it with overwhelming appreciation. A quality which is rare among many of my students. He was my student, but I also considered him a professional friend.

Its hard to imagine what the class room atmosphere will be like now. He brought so much enthusiasm to class, and was an gold example to the other students with providing useful critiques. His life was cut way too short, he was just beginning what he loved to do, his passion for his art and work. He had all the right qualities to be successful and then some. I looked forward to calling him my colleague.

I am struggling with his death. I accept things like this will happen in my personal life. Call it my inexperience as an instructor if you want, but I never even considered that my work life could be affected as well. When my mom passed away, I shut down my personal life and blocked off those feelings as a way of coping. I became a work-a-holic, logic and the endless drive to succeed was the only way I knew how to function. A lot of that has changed now, I'm able to cope more with what happened. But now it seems a barrier was broken and I'm vulnerable again. Death sucks, I accept it as its inevitable. I'm not afraid of it, if I died now I would be content. But I have a overwhelming difficulty with the concept of not being able to communicate with that person anymore. To not be able to enjoy life and share experiences with out that person. I view life as a journey to enjoy with those around me. When someone is taken away so abruptly like this, I'm left thinking and creating the would have been image of things to come and I am saddened that it cant come true. All the great things he was going to share with his son was taken away so unfairly.

It's the holiday season here in the USA, and will be celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. I know I have a lot to be thankful for, one would be knowing my student and friend for the time he was here, and I will always remember him for the passion he always had for learning and discovering new things.

50,000 pageviews and more!

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 6, 2009, 7:08 AM
news

Whoo hoo! I'm back from my trip! Spent pretty much the whole day yesterday in the airport and in a plane. Its good not to deal with security checkpoints snobby rude people anymore. We flew Delta... and it was horrible! They canceled our flight and crammed us in a plane who already had assigned seats, so we lose our seats to be randomly placed next to some stranger. I don't fly very well, my ears constantly hurt during the decent of the flight. If I didn't have that problem I probably wouldn't have mind the seat switch but Delta pretty much told us to deal with it or relay on the kindness of strangers to switch seats. Horrible costumer service. I just wanted someone next to me to be my ears during the flight and help me. But I suppose Delta really doesn't care.

But onto a much brighter topics the trip wasn't all that bad once we got their! spent Halloween with my nieces and nephews, took them out trick or treating, went to their costume parade at school. All in all it was a lot of fun! Of course we took care of some little had to do's while we were there too. I'm really going to miss all the great food. mmmmmmm... mouth just waters thinking about it!

Upon my arrival home I also hit my 50,000th pageview here on DA! [link] Twilight-Kibeti caught it and have noted her what she would like for a gift art request! ^_^ Thanks so much for everyone supporting my work! I really enjoy doing this. I think I always will, and to my Lion King Fans thanks again for supporting my antics! I know its not always everyone's cup of tea but its always going to be apart of my art because drawing these characters is so comforting. Just something about the colors and the charm that can be produced. And I mean come on... who dosent really like to see a cute little simba every now and then. XD

As I'm typing this my brand new baby kitty is watching! When we left, Colin's mom found her at her work in the parking lot. She cleaned her up and asked if we would take a kitten. We saw pictures of her and for a whole week we couldn't wait to see her. So now we come home to an adorable baby kitten who the vet think is about 7 weeks old. She seriously is so tiny. Very playful and curious! She started to fall asleep last night with us watching TV. haha, really fun to have a kitten.

But yes plenty of things to do today, just catching up on e-mails, work and unpacking! ^_^

50,000 pageview kiribian?

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 23, 2009, 5:39 AM

Sort of an important number? Normally I don't watch it much but noticed I was getting kind of close. Never really done one of these before, I've wanted to do other ones in the past but I always forgot and it speed-ed right by it, haha my epic fail. Anywho, figured I would do one of these and draw a picture for who ever catches it or gets close to the number. By my calculations it should be reached by the end of Oct sometime. ^_^

Also fyi I'll be leaving for Philadelphia next week for my yearly Halloween trip. I just love seeing my nieces and nephew all dressed up! Its definitely a fun time to visit. I just hope it wont be too cold. The Fall colors are always so pretty.... I just don't want to see winter. There is a reason why I chose to stay in Florida. I'll be bringing the laptop so I'll be still checking up on you ye!

Phillies are in the world series again!!!! guh.... last year the Rays should have won... stupid *kicks can and mudders off*

#devBUG Group Beta Tester

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 3, 2009, 8:25 AM
news

<--- It is very apparent that DA needs a formal group system.

After all, DA members found away around this by making user accounts and subbed them as a "club". Well this is about to change, for the better of course. Anyone that has ever ran a club on DA knows its a lot of maintenance and if you get help you have to trust them with the user login and password. Not any more, the new clubs system is pretty epic. I'm a #devBUG Group Beta Tester, anyone can really beta test the new clubs so long as they are a DA sponsor and clicked the beta testing feature in their profile. Then all you have to do is submit a app request to #devBUG Group. The apps ask that you have some beta testing experience though.

Though my snooping around the groups site I already see major improvements and new features. You can pretty much do everything you can currently do on your normal DA user account pages, like blog lists, art section, special features, twitter, polls etc. but now you can select members by rank and name those ranks as you chose. You can also easily note or message your members with a few clicks like writing a journal that will message only your members. This will be great for listing contests and such. Currently there is a side column to the left of the page that lists all the important group information in cause anyone is confused about who is actually in charge of the group, when the group was founded, how many members it currently has etc. You will also be able to have a widget available to your personal page showing what groups your are apart of.

I will update more when information becomes available. Also anyone watch the #devBUG Groups page to get journal entries if your not a tester. I have high hopes for the new system and I increasingly grow more excited by this. I think the Group system will give DA a better sense of community and will challenge artists in a whole new way.
